Some products fall legitimately in multiple categories. A blender could be Kitchen Appliances (15%) or Small Appliances (15%) — same rate. But a supplement could potentially be listed as Health & Personal Care (15%) or as Grocery & Gourmet Food (8% for items under $15). If you have a $12.99 supplement, the category determines whether you pay 8% or 15%.
Referral fee savings on category: 15% − 8% = 7% savings × $12.99 = $0.91/unit. At 1,000 units/month: $910/month in savings.
The risks
Amazon polices category accuracy. If you list a supplement in Grocery incorrectly, you risk: listing suppression, category review, or account health issues. Only migrate to a category your product genuinely belongs in.
Also consider Buy Box dynamics — category can affect who else competes for the Buy Box, which keywords drive discovery, and which review/rating thresholds apply. A lower referral fee isn't always worth the traffic changes.
