Run the numbers →What SIPP is
SIPP (Ships in Product Packaging) is Amazon's certification program for products whose original packaging is strong enough to be shipped directly to customers without an Amazon outer box. For eligible products, Amazon ships your product as-is — your packaging faces the customer, not an Amazon box. This reduces Amazon's packaging cost and gives brands a direct branding moment at delivery.
The SIPP fee structure works in reverse: if your product is enrolled in SIPP but fails the packaging criteria (or ships non-compliant), Amazon charges a surcharge for adding an outer box. Products that successfully ship SIPP-certified avoid this surcharge and benefit from reduced per-unit handling costs.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Amazon SIPP packaging fee? ▾
SIPP stands for Ships in Product Packaging. It's Amazon's program that allows eligible products to be shipped directly in their original product packaging without an Amazon shipping box. The SIPP fee (also called the 'non-SIPP surcharge') applies when items that could qualify for SIPP are instead shipped in an Amazon box — you're charged for the additional packaging material and handling cost.
What is the SIPP fee rate? ▾
For items enrolled in SIPP that fail to meet packaging requirements (and require an additional box), Amazon charges a surcharge typically in the range of $1.99–$3.99/unit. Items that successfully ship as SIPP avoid this surcharge and may also have slightly lower base fulfillment fees on some size tiers.
How do I know if my product is eligible for SIPP? ▾
Amazon evaluates SIPP eligibility based on the product's packaging durability, branding, and ability to withstand the shipping process without an outer box. Products with sturdy, fully enclosed packaging — common in electronics accessories, beauty tools, and fitness accessories — tend to qualify. You can check eligibility in Seller Central > FBA Inventory > SIPP Settings.
What are the SIPP packaging requirements? ▾
Your product packaging must protect the item during shipping without an outer box. Requirements: packaging must be rigid enough to withstand standard shipping damage (ISTA 6A standard), must include all required labels (FNSKU, hazmat if applicable), must not have loose materials that could escape. Amazon provides a packaging testing guide in Seller Central.
Is SIPP worth pursuing? ▾
For products with sturdy packaging and high volume (1,000+ units/month), SIPP can save $0.15–$0.30/unit in material and handling costs over standard FBA boxing. The investment is in packaging design and testing. For most brands, the ROI only works at scale — below 500 units/month, the design and testing cost rarely pays back.
Does SIPP affect my packaging and unboxing experience? ▾
Yes — your product ships in your packaging without an Amazon outer box. Customers see your branding first. This is often seen as a brand advantage (especially in beauty and premium consumer goods), but it also means your packaging needs to function as a shipping container, which changes packaging design requirements and usually adds cost.
